The most exciting discovery this month was finding out that our hospital has a greenhouse or "Glass Garden," including a horticultural therapy program. Not only is the place full of beautiful flowers and plants, but they have birds in cages and flying free (apparently wild birds that live in the greenhouse). It also has a pond with koi fish and a resident turtle, as well as as fountain. I wish I had found this earlier - it's a refuge from the dreary hospital walls and drab gray city.
Other than that, nothing too exciting. We're into the abdomen and renal unit, so it's all pretty familiar. After neuroanatomy, it's pretty much downhill till the end of the year.
The only alarming thing is rumors that the powers-that-be are consolidating Step 1 and Step 2. No big deal for med students but seriously problematic for MD/PhD's. Can you imagine waiting ~5+ years after medical school to take the boards? Not a happy thing. But no official word as yet as to whether our class will be stuck with that dismal proposition.
