I just finished a week of pediatric nursery and ER. It was nice to learn how to handle newborns in the nursery and perform the newborn exam. Helpfully, every physician reminded me to cover the genitalia of male patients to avoid getting squirted in the face. More medically important, my preceptor reminded me to wash my hands with soap, not just hand sanitizer, because urine can contain cytomegalovirus (which can cause birth defects if a pregnant woman is infected).
